CCTV Drain Inspection: See What's Blocking Your Pipes

6:05
Summary

Ever wondered what's really going on inside your drains? Watch our CCTV drain camera in action as we inspect a residential sewer line, identify tree root intrusion, and show you the real-time footage that helps us diagnose problems without digging.

Transcript

We're about to inspect a residential sewer line using our CCTV drain camera. The homeowner has been experiencing slow drains and occasional gurgling sounds. We'll feed our high-definition camera through the sewer access point and see exactly what's happening inside the pipe. Here we go — the camera is going in through the inspection opening. The pipe looks in good condition for the first few metres. Now we're reaching a section about eight metres in — and there it is. You can see tree roots have penetrated through a joint in the clay pipe. They're creating a net-like structure that catches everything flowing through. This is a very common issue in older properties, especially with large trees nearby. The roots are attracted to the moisture and nutrients inside the sewer line. We'll mark this location on the surface so we know exactly where the problem is. For this type of intrusion, we'd recommend hydro jetting to clear the roots, followed by pipe relining to seal the joint and prevent future root entry. The camera saves us from having to dig up the whole yard to find the problem.
